Through sustainable refurbishment and extension of Building 6 of Denys Lasdun’s Grade II listed Teaching Wall at the University of East Anglia, Fraser Brown MacKenna Architects are creating a home for UEA’s new ‘Productivity East’ initiative.
We have removed later additions to reveal hidden details of Lasdun’s original building – creating a state-of-the-art home for a new generation of “Visible Engineers” – a space where engineering activity and its ability to help solve the problems of today are made proudly visible.

We are proud of our team at FBM Architects for their work on two schemes that have been shortlisted in the 2021 Housing Design Awards. We are one of a select number of practices with more than one project shortlisted.
Our scheme at Commercial Road provides 38 new homes and commercial/retail space on the corner of Commercial Road and White Horse Road in Limehouse, Tower Hamlets.
In a borough where much historic fabric has been lost through bomb damage and subsequent redevelopment, retaining and incorporating the locally listed facades along White Horse Road and Commercial Road was key to gaining support for redevelopment. Working closely with conservation officers and our client we found a way to do so economically, and in doing so unlocked a site that had remained derelict for over twenty years.

We are proud of our team at FBM Architects for their work on two schemes that have been shortlisted in the 2021 Housing Design Awards. We are one of a select number of practices with more than one project shortlisted.
Our proposals to regenerate the Bancroft Estate for the London Borough of Tower Hamlets provide 33 new affordable apartments for council tenants in two separate buildings, one which incorporates offices for the Tenant Management Organisation and a new community space.
Resident wellbeing was an important factor in developing the design proposals. New green space significantly enhances the outlook for both existing and incoming residents. The project is the first council-led scheme to incorporate Air Source Heat Pumps as part of the energy strategy, signalling a change in the provision of clean energy in the borough.
