Housing Design Awards Shortlist – Commercial Road

March 2021

We are proud of our team at FBM Architects for their work on two schemes that have been shortlisted in the 2021 Housing Design Awards. We are one of a select number of practices with more than one project shortlisted.

Our scheme at Commercial Road provides 38 new homes and commercial/retail space on the corner of Commercial Road and White Horse Road in Limehouse, Tower Hamlets.

In a borough where much historic fabric has been lost through bomb damage and subsequent redevelopment, retaining and incorporating the locally listed facades along White Horse Road and Commercial Road was key to gaining support for redevelopment. Working closely with conservation officers and our client we found a way to do so economically, and in doing so unlocked a site that had remained derelict for over twenty years.

Housing Design Awards Shortlist – Bancroft Estate

March 2021

We are proud of our team at FBM Architects for their work on two schemes that have been shortlisted in the 2021 Housing Design Awards. We are one of a select number of practices with more than one project shortlisted.

Our proposals to regenerate the Bancroft Estate for the London Borough of Tower Hamlets provide 33 new affordable apartments for council tenants in two separate buildings, one which incorporates offices for the Tenant Management Organisation and a new community space.

Resident wellbeing was an important factor in developing the design proposals. New green space significantly enhances the outlook for both existing and incoming residents. The project is the first council-led scheme to incorporate Air Source Heat Pumps as part of the energy strategy, signalling a change in the provision of clean energy in the borough.

Reimagining Railway Stations

February 2021

Our proposals reimagine the individual, mono-use station as part of an infrastructure of multi-use hubs providing a range of uses that can support and connect local economies. Hubs at different stations could provide pop up retail space, shared workspaces, apartment hotels and micro-breweries; with smart-ticketing to allow users to move across the network to access the services they need.

Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!

December 2020

Thank you to our clients, colleagues and each member of our team for adapting so smoothly to new ways of working this year. As you can see, work recently started on the repair and restoration of the spectacular concrete roof at Smithfield Poultry Market for the City of London Corporation.

This year, rather than sending a Christmas card we have made a donation to the Brent Foodbank.

We are closing for the holidays at 1pm on 24th December and reopen at 9am on Monday 4th January. We look forward to working with you in 2021.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
