Our competition design for the new student residences on the Tocil Ponds student village site responds to the University of Warwick as a living system by creating a framework for individuals to engage with each other. It capitalises on the semi-rural landscape; a valuable magnet for academic talent in today’s urbanised world. The new residences offer scope to subtly develop the identity of the ‘block’ as a social unit, by providing intermediate spaces for communication and engagement. We have explored the use of the study bedroom not just as an individual domain, but as a setting for selective socialisation – creating a flexible space that will appeal to students at every stage of their academic career.
Our aim was to create a place that can reinforce the world class residential and learning experience at Warwick.
