Fraser Brown MacKenna are framework architects to Kingston University. We were appointed to develop a Strategic Plan for the Penrhyn Road Campus in Kingston Upon Thames.
The Strategic Plan aims to outline possible future estates development and improvements to the physical fabric of the campus. We began by undertaking a detailed site analysis which helped us to understand the performance of the current buildings on the site, and highlighting the strengths and weaknesses in the way that the campus functions as a learning environment. We developed a menu of options to guide the future development of the campus, including enhancing ‘in-between’ spaces, improving circulation, wayfinding and maximising the utilisation of the landscape. The Strategic Plan provides a kit-of-parts approach to allow for phased, sequential development over time.
