Our new purpose built student accommodation in Englefield Green, near Egham and Royal Holloway University, has won a design competition run by Runnymede Borough Council. The proposed scheme has a total of 27 units over 5 storeys, a double height common room and landscaped garden providing outdoor amenity space. The scheme offers high quality student living space that replaces a building that is no longer fit for purpose.
The design of the new accommodation reflects the form and massing of the surrounding residential buildings in a contemporary way, with clean lines and detailing. The main mass sits within a similar overall height of the existing building, with increased footprint towards the rear of the site to provide much needed additional student accommodation. Three storeys appear visible from St Jude’s Road whilst the fourth is set lower behind the new landscaping, using the site’s existing topography. A final fifth storey ‘pavilion’ is set back from the sloped parapet edge.
